2. Five Minarets

The mosque’s five minarets, each built during different historical periods, are each unique and a testament to the evolving architectural styles of the periods they were built in.

3. Multiple Mihrabs

Al-Azhar Mosque has several mihrabs, or prayer niches. The most significant is the stucco-decorated mihrab built in the 18th century, located in the Qibla wall.

4. Al-Azhar University

This influential institution, which grew from a set of classrooms within the mosque, should not be missed. The university complex adjoins the mosque and provides a fascinating insight into Islamic scholarship.
